What is GOBDF?

The Greater Ohio Bleeding Disorders Foundation (GOBDF) is a full-service organization committed to enhance the quality of life for people with factor deficient bleeding disorders and their families, through advocacy, education, research and other constituency services.

Who can join GOBDF?

Patients with factor deficient bleeding disorders and their immediate families living in the same household in the greater Akron, Cleveland, Columbus and Youngstown areas.

Does it cost money to join GOBDF?

Membership is free!

Do I have to renew my membership?

No annual renewal is necessary, but it is the members’ responsibility to update their information as it changes.

Are there membership requirements?

All patients must have their diagnosis confirmed by their HTC or healthcare team prior to being added to the database or receiving services.

As a member, do I have to pay to attend events?

Most programs are free to members, but many activities require a small refundable deposit. The deposit is returned after you check into the event.

If someone in my family has a Bleeding Disorder, but I don’t, can I still join?

Family members living within the same household as someone with a bleeding disorder can be included in the membership application

If I don’t have a Bleeding Disorder, but I want to get involved, how can I help?

You can stay informed by joining our mailing list. You can volunteer at events, help with outreach, support our fundraising efforts, or join us in advocating for policies that protect and empower people with bleeding disorders.

What types of assistance does GOBDF offer to members?

GOBDF provides Medical IDs, Educational Scholarships, Emergency Financial Assistance, Counseling, Camp Scholarships, Dental Program, Conference Travel Scholarships and Travel Assistance. Please see our visit our Patient Services page for more details.

What is an HTC?

Hemophilia treatment centers (HTCs) provide specialized and comprehensive health care for people with bleeding disorders.

I have a new Bleeding Disorder diagnosis, where do I start?

Start by reaching out to your local HTC. They’ll help you understand your diagnosis, treatment options, and what to expect. Once you’re connected with your care team, GOBDF can support you with education, patient assistance programs, events, and opportunities to meet others in the community.

Is GOBDF a medical organization?

We’re not a medical organization, but we collaborate with the HTCs in our region to offer education, resources, and support to our community.

Does GOBDF have social workers on staff?

We don’t provide social work services directly, but we partner closely with the social workers at all HTCs in our region to ensure our members receive the support they need.

Does GOBDF offer physician referrals?

No, GOBDF does not provide physician referrals, but we can help connect you with your local HTC for guidance.
